Animations

Here are some 3D animations that I've created. The first few (the three logos and the perpetual motion balls) are in GIF format and should be viewable in any relatively recent browser. The problem with GIF format is that if your computer isn't powerful enough, the animations may run a bit slowly, especially when they get to the later frames. Sorry, but there's nothing I can do about it. For the rest of the animations, I've only put up an MPEG version; see the bottom of this page for tips on viewing MPEGs.

Goldman Sachs - 29 KB      NY Repo - 155 KB

These are two animated GIFs I made over the summer at work. I was working for Goldman Sachs in the NY Repo (short for "repurchases") department. The square with "Goldmans Sachs" on top is not my own design; it's really their logo.

Infinity Software - 69 KB

An animation of my "Infinity Software" logo. For an explanation of the logo (and a larger, still version of it), see my 3D Graphics page.

Perpetual Motion Balls - 424 KB

Those famous "perpetual motion" balls. The idea for this simple animation came to me while learning about pendulum motion in physics class. As an educational note, I should point out that because of conservation of momentum and energy, this "device" really would work as I depict it. However, in the real world, it would eventually slow down because of friction. Behold the wonder of computer graphics and looping animations!
Warning: The GIF version of this animation is quite large and may run very slowly on some systems. I recommend the MPEG version. See the bottom of the page for details on how to properly play this format.

Juggler - 403 KB

My best work so far; make sure you notice his blinking eyes.
For a still shot and a 3D Stereogram, see my 3D Graphics page.

Juggling Machine - 2,779 KB

The IRTC (Internet Ray Tracing Competition) was having an animation round on "Gadgets & Odd Devices," so I decided to adapt my Juggling Man into a Juggling Machine. Of course, since it's a machine, it can handle 13 balls instead of just 7 (thereby breaking the previous record of 11 being the most objects juggled at once). There are some interesting camera angles in the animation that make it worth downloading even if you already have the Juggling Man.
(Note: This file is almost 3 megabytes, but I think it's worth the wait.)
For a still shot, see my 3D Graphics page.

Puzzle - 518 KB

For a description and still shot of this puzzle, see my 3D Graphics page. Here is the animation of the solution, which takes 86 moves.

To play MPEGs in Windows 95: Right click on the link for the animation, and select "Save Target/Link As" (depending on whether you have Internet Explorer or Netscape). Save the file to your hard drive, making sure to remember where on the hard drive you save it to.
In the Start Menu, go to Programs\Accessories\Multimedia\Windows Media Player. Select File\Open and locate the file you've saved. Open it. For best results, select Edit\Options and make sure that "Auto Repeat" is checked. (In the newer version of Media Player, this last step will actually be View\Options, and making sure that "Repeat forever" is selected.) This will loop the animations.
